Whether you’ve lowered your Macan for aesthetics or performance, there may come a time when you need to return it to stock ride height—like before a service appointment. This guide walks you through how to reprogram the suspension height using diagnostic software, without tricking the system or affecting headlight alignment.
Step 1: Vehicle Setup
This method applies to a 2020 Porsche Macan Turbo equipped with air suspension.
In this demo, the vehicle was lowered by roughly 1.75 inches.
The goal is to restore stock height for dealer service.
Start with the car running (engine on), although some may choose to perform this with just ignition on. Either way, ensure stability during adjustments.
Step 2: Connect to Diagnostic Software
I’m using a tool from Innovative Soft. Once connected:
Open the Diagnostics section.
The software will detect the vehicle (Macan Turbo in this case).
From the overview screen, scroll to the PASM section and select it.
Click Next or press F12.
Select the only available option.
Choose Manual Coding Without Rules.
Step 3: Reviewing Height Data
You’ll see two key data sets:
Last Entered Measured Height: Shows the current height around all four corners (in mm).
Adjustment Values: These are what you’ll be modifying.
Tip: The measured values can vary slightly depending on terrain and surface level. Use consistent reference points when measuring manually.
Step 4: Understand the Adjustment Logic
Instead of faking the height values to trick the ECU (which can affect systems like headlight aim), you’ll be entering accurate adjustment values. This method maintains proper calibration across all systems.
Here’s how to measure correctly:
Use a laser level to hit the center of the wheel.
Measure from the center of the wheel to the top of the fender arch.
Be cautious not to scratch the bodywork during measurements.
In this example, the lowered value was around 15 7/8 inches at the front.
Step 5: Enter Adjustment Values
To restore to factory height:
Stock front value: 190 mm
Stock rear value: 172 mm
Enter these values into the adjustment section.
Note: These may vary slightly by vehicle but should be within a few millimeters for the same model and suspension setup.
Step 6: Write Changes to the System
Click Write (or press F8) to apply the new values.
The system will immediately begin adjusting the suspension.
Measure again to confirm new ride height.
Step 7: Verify the Ride Height
After reprogramming, the car raised itself automatically.
Re-measured height: approx. 17 5/16 inches (while still in low mode).
Switching PASM to Normal mode raised it again to just over 18 1/4 inches—which matches factory ride height.
Conclusion
By adjusting the true suspension height values—rather than spoofing measurements—you preserve proper headlight aim and system calibration. This method is reliable and easily reversible. You can lower or raise the Macan using this procedure any time without a full recalibration.
