Problem
When using Autel IM608 + XP400 Pro, the tool can successfully read Mercedes-Benz W215/W220 EIS data but fails to calculate the password.
- Tried via CAN, K-line, with G-Box and without G-Box — still no success.
- Question: How can the password for this type of EIS be read?
Solution
Autel IM508/IM608 cannot read the password for W220/W215 EIS directly via tablet or G-Box.
On some W215 units, the password can only be obtained through EEPROM data reading on the board. If the EIS board contains two large 64-pin chips, one must be desoldered and read.
Method 1 – XP400 Pro (EEPROM Mode)
- Disassemble the EIS:
- Remove the back cover.
- Unscrew the two bolts (note: they are different lengths; mixing them during reassembly can damage the processor).
- Identify the Processor:
- Determine if your EZS/EIS has a single or dual processor.
- Some models use the Motorola MC9S chip.
- Solder & Read Data:
- Use the W215 wiring diagram and solder wires to the board.
- On XP400 Pro, go to Immo → Mercedes-Benz → Chip Type → EEPROM Mode.
- Read the D-Flash data.
- Extract Password:
- Upload the data in Expert Mode.
- Retrieve the password and generate the key file.
Method 2 – Alternative Tool
If Autel cannot handle the EIS type:
- Use another tool such as Xhorse Key Tool Plus with the EZS/EIS adapter.
- This setup can read passwords from W215 EIS successfully.
Example Case:
- Vehicle: 2005 Mercedes S430 (W220/W215)
- Processor: Motorola 4L40K
- Operations: Read & Write EEPROM + Flash — successful.
