When using Launch SmartLink C as a J2534 Passthru device, ODIS-S fails to detect the vehicle’s ignition status. Even after updating the J2534 drivers through the official Launch software, the issue persists.
Because of this limitation, ODIS cannot perform most diagnostic or programming functions. It only allows basic operations such as reading fault codes, accessing freeze frame data, and clearing fault codes. This severely restricts functionality unless a different adapter is used.
Solution
By design, J2534 Passthru does not support automatic or manual ignition detection. The only exception is the Scanmatik 2 PRO, which allows manual ignition selection (you must tick the box for ignition ON/OFF). Its driver is compatible with ODIS Service 23.0.1 and ODIS Engineering 17.0.1 (not newer versions) as of the current driver release (v2.21.26).
Therefore, unless you switch to an official VAS6154A or VCDS HEX-NET adapter, the Scanmatik 2 PRO is the only J2534 option that provides workable ignition control within ODIS.
